Jewelry classes with Edith Schneider

Classes

This beginner / intermediate class is interesting for those who want to learn how to make jewelry from metal sheet and wire. You will learn how to use basic hand tools (pliers, hammer, saw, files etc) and power tools (flex shaft, torch etc) with which we make several pieces of jewelry. You will learn about metals, stones, settings, chain making and other techniques. The goal is to make you feel comfortable using all the tools mentioned above, and to be able to design and fabricate your own ideas. Edith will teach you to bring out your creative side, she will inspire you and show you how to translate an idea into a piece of wearable art. Projects are:

  1. Dangling Earrings
  2. Chain Maille Bracelet
  3. Textured Pendant

The class fee includes basic materials, like brass, copper sheet and wire, Sterling Silver scraps, flux, solder, propane, oxygen etc.

If you want to work in Sterling Silver or Gold, Edith can order that for you at wholesale prices.
If you have basic hand tools at home, bring them to class (flat nose plier, round nose plier, chain nose plier, wire cutter, jewelry hammer / chasing hammer, jewelry saw & sawblades, bench pin, needlefiles). If you don’t have any of those, please DON’T buy them prior to class; we will talk about them at the first meeting, then you know better what to buy or Edith can order them for you for wholesale prices.

This class is a beginner / intermediate class; after completion you will be allowed to register for open studio.
